In response to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, Guardians of Traditions, Monano, and the No Evil Project invited local artists either affected by domestic violence themselves, or who’s work addresses the topic to submit works for this exhibition.
Art is often used not only to convey and invoke emotion but also as a way to heal for both the artist and the viewer. Many times the stigma around abuse is what prevents survivors from speaking out or finding help so the goal of this exhibit is not only to raise awareness of domestic violence but to give a voice to survivors in a variety of forms. By making it easier to have open conversation about this topic and recognizing that it affects many within our own community, we can reduce the stigma of domestic violence, make it easier to share personal experiences, and encourage those still in unsafe situations to find help.
With No Evil Project’s mission of removing stigma from labels, there will also be a Project piece featuring people affected by domestic violence.
The reception will include a panel discussion, counselors on hand, and a facilitated rope labyrinth.
